Today we’re announcing that Bryan Lee is retiring from Microsoft, to pursue personal interests. J Allard, already instrumental in shaping Microsoft’s music strategy, will be taking over Zune responsibilities. From the start of the project, J has shared overall responsibility for Zune. Bryan was looking after marketing and business development for example and J had responsibility for the design and technology of Zune. As anyone who works in a big company knows, change is the only constant. Organizations evolve and change over time, and Zune is no different. And on a personal note, I’m really excited to work on J’s team. I have incredible respect for his vision, his drive, and he’s one of the smartest people I know. And J, if you’re reading this, let me just say, “I think you’re great. High-five?”
A few folks have expressed concern over skipping (Cesar looks at Sportsunit), so I wanted to address that here. If you have a Zune that isn’t skipping (which, truth be told, is the majority of owners), move along, nothing to see here, move along. But if the content from ZMP is skipping on your device, I want to tell you that the team is aware, and is working on it.
Overall, the comments on this blog help the Zune team get a feel for what’s really happening out there among Zune users. We’re a new player on the scene, and I think it’s important for the team to stay connected – so, thanks for leaving comments and for the great discussion that goes on here.
