Last Thursday, the Zune team threw a party at Baltic Room, with Clipse. I got invited (last minute, so I didn’t invite you, dear blog reader). Anyways, I’ve been meaning to post some photos and link to The Stranger’s recap, but haven’t gotten around to it till now. You know, busy, what with all the playing Gears of War Zune work.
Anyways, check some pictures:

On a mostly un-related note: in college I made up this expression “I’m so indie, I look up and see the underground.” Go me.
Came across an interesting article today which highlights a few things that the Zune team got right, and that “Apple should take note of and consider emulating.” Among them, a larger screen, fingerprint-resistant plastic, and two-dimensional browsing. The article reminds me of Scott McNulty’s commentary on TUAW, where he says about Zune: “I hope that it succeeds. Apple could use a strong rival in the MP3 player space, because competition fosters innovation.”
Again, interesting. Thoughts?
If you are in high school and live around Salem then you could probably win a free zune.
How?

MP3 Friday: Eighth Edition
Pull up a chair, dear blog reader: it’s time for another exciting edition of MP3 Friday! High-five! Click-through the links to get free music for your Zune,
- First up, for those folks who liked The Band (the band) back in the day, Music for Robots has an mp3 of Vietnam’s “Welcome to My Room” Find more info on Vietnam (the band) at their website.
- Zuneinsider reader/commenter Zenek emails me this week, saying, “Here’s a lovely suggestion for the next MP3 friday that covers both the Metal-Heads AND the Gamers out there!” So, in honor of Zenek, I give you: Metroid Metal. Eighteen free MP3s, of a remastered Metroid soundtracks. This made me smile. I actually think if you were to do a Venn Diagram of metalheads and hardcore gamers, you’d basically just have one circle. Agree? I could be wrong on this one.
- My Old Kentucky Blog’s Dodge posts music from Greg Laswell and Damien Rice, including Greg Laswell’s cover of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”
- Also check MOKB’s post with music from Subtle, the act opening for TV on the Radio
- And our friends at You Ain’t No Picasso post new (live) mp3s from Spoon (a Zuneinsider favorite).
- Albert Hammond Jr (Strokes Guitarman) Rocks Cleveland
- Though it’s not an MP3, Scenestars post the Decemberist Tour Dates.
- And last but certainly not awesome, You Can Take the Boy Out of Brooklyn posts mp3s from John Mellencamp and Placebo.
Enjoy the free music, and have a great weekend!
